Spelling Training
The website Spelling training (https://www.spellingtraining.com/) is another great resource to practice spelling at home. There are so many great ways to practice spelling on this website.
To start you can enter your own spelling list or choose from one of their pre-made ones. The ones that they offer are sorted by grade level and broken down into different spelling rules. There are hundreds of pre-made lists on the site but if you do not find one that you like, you can always make your own list.
Here is what the drop-down menu looks like and all you have to do is click on whatever sleeping rule you would like to practice and it will make the list for you.
Once a spelling list is set up there are a wide variety of activities to do with the words. When you scroll down the page you see this menu of activity options:
Here is a quick rundown of the different activities offered on this website:
- Online Spelling Test: you hear the words in a random order and has to type them
- Practice Your Words: teaches you in three phases how to spell the words step by step
- Reading with Spaceships: a game that has you select the word you hear out of four choices
- Reading with Balloons: a game as the spaceship game but with hot air balloons instead
- Spelling Sharks: a timed game where you have to type the word that you hear correctly
- Hangman: the classic game of hangman except that you can hear the word you are guessing
- Flying Flash Cards: the word is said, then put on the screen and you have to decide if it is spelled correctly
This website is great for those who English is not their first language because not only can students practice their spelling they can also hear the correct pronunciation of the all of the words they are learning and practicing.
